Durham City is located in Northern England on the banks of the river Wear, about 15 miles inland from Sunderland. The city boasts some amazing heritage, including the historic Norman cathedral, built to house the shrine of Saint Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, and the 11th century Norman castle, both dating back to around 1072 The area also hosts a vibrant hub of student life with the University being a major part of city culture in Durham. It is currently ranked between 3rd and 7th places by the latest league tables of the British universities
